Dr. Barnard on Reversing Diabetes

6/8/2012

Here, a hero of mine, Dr. Neal Barnard, the founder and president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), gives a 30 minute lecture about how the majority of people can reverse diabetes by going on a plant based (vegan) diet.

There's no question in my mind that the future of health is in nutrition, not drugs, for these 'diseases of affluence'.

Reversing Diabetes with Food!

5/4/2012

I've been participating in the online Food Revolution Summit by listening to the podcasts on my computer.  http://foodrevolution.org/ This morning I was listening to Morgan Spurlock (director/star of Supersize Me) speak about his opinions on fast food and health, the health of his child and his ideas for change.

After doing a quick YouTube search I found a documentary that he was interviewed in called Simply Raw, Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days. This brought me back to the issue of diabetes, a disease that effects more people than ever these days and is completely preventable (Type 2). There is a lot of information out there about naturally reversing diabetes and curing yourself through an unprocessed, whole foods, vegan diet. Here's the trailer for the film to get you thinking. Do some research for yourself and see what your options are.

The Last Heart Attack

5/1/2012

In North America we often assume that heart attacks are just a part of life. However, studies show that the majority of heart attacks could virtually be eliminated if we had the right information and education to help us make the right choices. Here's an inspiring CNN documentary to give you the whole story.

Gerson Therapy- The Beautiful Truth

4/22/2012

I watched this movie, 'The Beautiful Truth' last night, after having seen mention of the Gerson Therapy in the movie 'Food Matters' (see post below). Ironically, a friend suggested this movie to me out of the blue without knowing I had so recently been introduced to the Gerson Therapy (I love how the world works like that!). This moving blew my mind, and although it's not the most exciting or well-done movie out there, it is full of life changing evidence of curing cancer through nutrition and also about the need to take our health and food choices into our own hands. Do yourself a favour and watch this movie with a friend or loved one. I promise you'll be shocked and awed.

Food Matters!

4/18/2012

Here's a film that gets my recommendation! I hosted a screening of it last night for a community group and I think everyone took something important away from this film. Watch the first 40 minutes for free on the website, or find a local screening. Better yet, host a local screening! www.foodmatters.tv

If Gordon Ramsay Cares, You May Too!

4/9/2012

Here is a quick video of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay taking a moment to learn about pig factory farming practices in the UK. In the US and Canada we can see the same common farming practices used.

Pigs are intelligent and social animals. They build nests to nurture their young, and have very high cleanliness standards with designated defecation areas. They have an extremely sensitive sense of smell and with this can find water underground. They don't sweat so it is important for pigs to have access to dirt and mud to cool themselves in the heat, as elephants would.

As Canada is the 3rd largest largest exporter of pork, we too have large factory farms which mutilate, confine and murder these fascinating and sweet creatures.

Dr. Michael Greger, a leader

4/5/2012

I had the pleasure of attending a lecture of Dr. Michael Greger's at the 2011 Toronto Vegetarian Food Festival. Since then, I've been hooked on his quick videos at www.nutritionfacts.org, summarizing all the latest health and medical research specifically for regular people like us! Type any topic in the search field and get condensed information in the form of videos from the all newest studies. You can also find more information about Michael Greger and his story here:  http://www.veganmd.org/

Here's some quick insight from the man himself!

My Inspiration: Colleen Patrick-Goudreau

3/29/2012

I didn't start my vegan journey for any reason in particular. Instead it was a series of signs all within one week which pointed me to veganism. I always feel that it happened to me, it was not my choice.

In one moment, I declared myself vegan and I have never looked back.  Now I needed to find my reasons and my inspiration that would carry me forward. A quick internet search later, and into my life stepped Colleen Partick-Goudreau. She is a wealth of knowledge and compassion and I personally wouldn't be where I am today without her.

Here's a short video about her awakening into veganism. You can find her website at www.compassionatecooks.com.

Is Eating Meat Ethical?

3/20/2012

This evening I'm heading down to a university lecture hall to listen to Gene Baur speak, founder of Farm Sanctuary. I'm really excited to hear his message, and if this afternoon's CBC radio broadcast is any indication as to what his message is, it is to rethink the notion that we need to eat meat.

This afternoon's Maritime Noon broadcast can be found here, and starting at about 9:40 you can hear the great debate with opinions of Gene's as well as call-in guests. I was tempted to call myself! Take a listen. What are your thoughts?

What's Good For You Is Good For Our Planet!

Here's a short comment on the research study conducted by Harvard, entitled 'Red Meat Consumption and Mortality', on March 12th, 2012. This comment is written by Dr. Dean Ornish  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Ornish), a leading doctor in nutritional health.
